Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge

Helen Lucas Architects are delighted to announce that we were the winning workplace in our size category in the recent Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge! 

This involved logging all the travel our office undertook to, from and for work in the month of March, with more sustainable modes of transport moving us up the leaderboard. We won a donation to a charity of our choice, and have decided to donate the money to Social Bite. 
 
Involvement in this has encouraged us to be conscious about the environmental impact of our working lives, and how we can travel more actively and sustainably.

West End Project progresses

Our project in Edinburgh’s West End is progressing well, with some incredibly neat workmanship of the new and refurbished roof. The new dormer captures tremendous views across the city and to the hills beyond.

Thanks to main contractors Gloss Projects, Grey and Dick windows and Finial roofing for all their hard work.

Helen Lucas Architects are currently seeking a part II or architect with up to 3 years experience to join our creative, hard-working and sociable practice. 

 
A prospective candidate should be committed to intelligent design and be able to express their ideas confidently and clearly from early sketches to technical stages. They should be a proactive and motivated team member who shares our practice ethos to produce honest, sustainable and thoughtful work. Experience of working closely with private clients on domestic projects is desirable and proficiency in Vectorworks and Adobe Creative Suite advantageous.

Grange house planning granted

HLA have recently been awarded planning for a new project in Edinburgh's Grange conservation area. The garden extension acts to bring more light into the building, creating a bright and contemporary living space with strong connections to the garden.  Clad in zinc, it is markedly contemporary whilst also being complimentary to the existing sandstone villa.

New Town flat progress

8 February 2019

Stripping back the historic layers and piercing the gloom; bringing new life to a New Town flat. 

This extensive refurbishment will create a contemporary home for our clients whilst working within the grand Georgian spaces. Less grand spaces like this access stair are also a learning experience, showing multiple construction types, including original rubble, rough ashlar stone and large format brickwork supporting the spiral stone stairs.
