Helen Lucas Architects are delighted to congratulate Director and Architect, Rosalind Love, on the successful completion of her RIAS Conservation Accreditation. Ros’ specialist knowledge of conservation architecture is invaluable to the practice; many of our projects situated in conservation areas and several undertaking works to listed buildings. Helen Lucas Architects are working to transform a 1960s bungalow in the Colinton area, realising a programme of works to rationalise the space for the challenges of modern family living. While almost doubling the floor area, the open nature of the internal scheme will also improve the property’s relationship to its garden.

Furthermore, the works will provide a significant thermal upgrade to the property’s original masonry cavity wall construction, dramatically reducing the home’s energy consumption. A new dormer is insulated with wood fibre and will feature timber cladding articulated with vertical fins between the windows.

Model making is underway as we explore possible elevations and develop early concepts for our East Lothian courtyard project.

These initial proposals include a porch extension to the existing house, creating a threshold space between house and grounds, and separate building to provide accessible guest accommodation. The two zinc clad forms are connected by a covered walkway, enclosing an intimate garden with swimming pool, all orientated to capture the evening sun.

We are excited to see our Walled Garden site taking shape, glasshouse now installed, in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
