Harbour House, North Berwick

Living Spaces

This listed three-storey Victorian townhouse, on a prominent North Berwick street, was extensively upgraded to produce a light and modern holiday home.

On the ground floor the whole plan has been opened up front to back and extended into the garden. Externally the new room appears as a sensitive painted timber structure that draws reference from the beach huts of early Victorian seaside architecture.

The insertion of a large area of roof glazing into the existing roof, has not only resolved the issue of restricted headroom on the existing stair but has also created a special place to sit and take advantage of wonderful panoramic views of the coastline and islands beyond.

Working with HLA was a joy.  As we are based overseas, they constantly put themselves in our shoes during the project, always mindful of how WE want to live in the house.  The resulting home we have created together is testament to the close and intuitive working relationship that they created.  We are thrilled we now have a home we can fully enjoy for many years to come.
