New houses by Aros Burn, Mull
Living Spaces
This proposal is for the development of 6 new houses over 5 plots by Aros Burn, near Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull.
There is a requirement for a range of new and affordable housing on the Isle of Mull to meet the existing and future needs of the island community. Our client’s vision for the site was to create modern living spaces which connect instinctively to their natural and built surroundings.
The houses themselves are a mix of family homes and smaller properties, all of high-quality, contemporary and affordable design. The intention is for the plots to be made available for private sale either individually or as a group.
The masterplan has been developed with consideration of the challenges and opportunities presented by the site, taking into account the immediate and wider settlement patterns, landscape character, climate and topography. With an analysis of these factors, alongside national planning policy and local development plans, we have conceived a group of houses of suitable scale, density, and orientation with
placemaking at the forefront of the design.
The massing and form of the houses reference the local vernacular, with a consistent architectural language across the site. The site specific layouts are designed to maximise daylight and provide shelter. Sensitive design and detailing and considered material use will produce sustainable homes with longevity.
