Helen Lucas Architect MA(Hons) DipArch RIAS

Before establishing HLA in 2001, Helen gained experience in designing housing developments in London both for the private sector with Darbourne and Darke and on social housing with Solon Co-operative Design Group. She then travelled to Australia where she worked for Edwards Madigan Torzillo Briggs designing commercial interiors for buildings in Canberra.

Helen continued gathering a variety of experience working at the Appleton Partnership in Edinburgh where she produced working drawings for the competition-winning West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds and designed and administered a number of community offices for the Westerhailes community in Edinburgh.

Helen worked for Johnston Erdal and then Erdal Architects on housing and commercial projects for developers, a nursing home development for The Sue Ryder Foundation in a B-listed country house and a number of renovations and new-build bespoke houses in Edinburgh. Helen also designed a number of commercial interiors and facades for businesses in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Clare Armstrong Architect BArch(Hons) MArch

Clare studied at Edinburgh College of Art, gaining a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) degree in 2002 and a Masters in 2003. During this time she also worked at Lee/Timchula Architects in New York (the continuation of Edward Larrabee Barnes' firm). Following graduation, Clare worked on a variety of projects, including higher education buildings, masterplans, commercial and domestic architecture, for Austin-Smith:Lord in Glasgow, where she qualified as an Architect in 2005, and Bennetts Associates in Edinburgh. She joined Helen Lucas Architects in 2010.

Clare was the secretary for the judging panel of the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards from 2004-2010.

Lucy Sacker Architect MA(Hons) BArch

Lucy studied Architecture at the University of Edinburgh from 1994, graduating in 1998 with a first class honours degree and in 2000 with a distinction in the Bachelor of Architecture. Lucy worked during this time at Burnell Briercliffe Architects in Sheffield, a firm specialising in domestic and community architecture. After graduating, Lucy worked for four years at Malcolm Fraser Architects in Edinburgh on a variety of public arts buildings and bespoke commercial projects. She qualified as an Architect in 2002 while at Malcolm Fraser Architects.

Lucy joined Helen Lucas Architects in 2005, keen to be involved in projects from early design stages to completion and to help people make the most of the homes they live in and the local businesses they run.

Tom Fuggle Architect MA(Hons) MArch

Tom came to Edinburgh from London in 1998 to study architecture at the University of Edinburgh. In 2002 he graduated with an MA hons in Architectural Design and in 2004 with a Master of Architecture, with a year at the Technical University of Graz, Austria in 2003. Tom has worked at Richard Murphy Architects in Edinburgh, the Stinnett Group Architects in San Francisco, Laurence Loh Architects in Penang, Malaysia, and Christian Garnett Partnership in London. In 2007 he qualified as an Architect.

Tom moved to Helen Lucas Architects in 2006, attracted by the bespoke nature of the projects, close client relationships and highly-crafted design approach. Here he has been able to apply previous experience of arts buildings, domestic design and conservation. Tom provides additional support to other colleagues in the form of 3d modelling.

Ros Livingstone Architect BArch(Hons) PDip

Ros studied Architecture at Kansas University in the United States and at Edinburgh College of Art where she graduated in 2003 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture and Urbanism. Ros has previously worked with Gould Evans Associates (Kansas), Consarc Design Group (Belfast), Nicholas Groves Raines Architects and Elizabeth Roxburgh Architects (Edinburgh) and has gained a particular interest in architectural conservation and working with listed buildings.

Ros joined Helen Lucas Architects in 2008, attracted by the company's expertise and reputation for delivering high-quality sustainable Architecture. Since then she has continued working with historic properties but has also enjoyed the opportunity of working on new-build domestic projects.

Claire Metivier Architect BSc DipArch

Claire Metivier relocated to Edinburgh in 2010 to join the team at Helen Lucas Architects. Claire trained at the Bartlett School of Architecture, gaining a first class honours degree in 2003 and Diploma in 2007. She has worked on projects of a variety of scales at design-led practices, principally, The Richard Rogers Partnership, Thinking Space Ltd and Levitate Architecture and Design Studio. She was registered by the ARB in 2009 following a Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Architecture at The University of Westminster.

Claire has a particular interest in using physical models as a tool for communicating spatial relationships to clients and enriching the design process.

David Williamson Architect BA(Hons) DipArch

David studied architecture at the University of Sheffield, graduating with an honours degree in 1999 and a Diploma in 2002. During this period, he worked at Aedos AHR and Carey Jones Architects; being primarily involved in residential and hotel projects. Following graduation, David worked for nearly 10 years at Halliday Clark Architects, latterly becoming responsible for a small team within the office. Projects undertaken were from a wide variety of construction sectors; and included private houses, commercial offices, works to listed buildings, and large scale secondary schools. He has occasionally acted as an invited tutor at the University of Sheffield, and in 2007 he qualified as an Architect following examinations in Professional Practice at the Architectural Association.

David joined Helen Lucas Architects in 2011, being particularly interested in the close attention to detail and elegant approach to design.
